Welcome to G.D. Birla Centre For Education




The School : With the rapid growth of Kolkata beyond the frontiers of its southern fringes, the G.D. Birla Centre For Education was established in the year 1973 in what is now the bustling residential area of Ranikuthi, at the southern fringes of Kolkata.

A girls' school from classes Lower Infant up to class XII, there is also a morning boys' section and an afternoon girls' section for classes XI and XII. The morning section offers Science and Commerce Streams and the afternoon section offers Science Stream only.

The school is affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi



Our Facilities




Medical Support

The school has a well equipped sick room for emergencies, a qualified fulltime nurse and a doctor on call for any child who needs attention. Confidential counselling service is also available to help students cope with stress, academic and non-academic issues.

Library

Excellent facilities and resources are provided through its modern laboratories and expansive library with worldwide collection of books and periodicals.





Computer Aided Learning

The school has well-equipped computer laboratories stocked with educational CD Roms. Classrooms are also equipped with computers to enhance learning.





Activities

Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service Motivation and training opportunities are provided for proper planning, execution and evaluation of SUPW, which include the making of articles of social use or the practice of a skill. The subjects offered for SUPW classes are Journalism, Personal Grooming, Guitar, Synthesizer, Nutrition, Commercial Art and Fashion Designing. Community Service, an integral part of this work experience is a compulsory element of the school programme.

Co-Curricular

Vocal Music (eastern and western), Band, Taekwando, Skating, Vedic Maths, Chess, Dance, Needlework, Instrumental Music, Commercial Art, French, Mandarin and German are some of the subjects offered under Co-Curricular Activities. Coaching is provided by senior state level coaching professionals for Table Tennis, Chess and Basketball.

Club Activities

Students from Classes VI to XII are involved in various clubs like: Nature Club (affiliated to the World Wildlife Fund), SPIC MACAY (The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth), Heritage Club, Quiz Club, Elocution & Debate Club and Spell Bee Club.

Laboratories

The school is well-equipped with laboratories for practical oriented subjects. The Biotechnology laboratory accounts for finest facilities that are equivalent to any research institute, with latest equipments to work on all aspects of Bioscience. The state-of-the-art infrastructure and technical competencies of the lab make the learning process easier for the students.

Events




Students from G.D. Birla Centre for Education enjoyed an outdoor interaction with Nature. They painted, drew, did craftwork, sang songs and composed music, wrote poetry and enjoyed the scenery

Languages : All students are required to study two languages and a third language from classes V to VIII.

Evaluation & Promotion

The merit and performance of students are assessed through a system of continuous evaluation in the primary classes and through planned class tests and terminal examinations in the senior section. Students are graded according to aggregate performance and promoted to the next class at the end of each academic year.

Guardians are periodically appraised of the students' progress.



Admission

Every candidate must register with the school before appearing for interactive session / counselling / test.



LOWER INFANT

The Prospectus-cum-Registration forms are issued in December-January for Lower Infant. Parents should come along with the child for an interactive session as per the date and time mentioned on the Receipt-cum-Admit Card.

The age limit for admission to Lower Infant is 3+ as on 1st April of the year of application.

Parents must rank their preference of school in the Registration Form.

The following documents are to be submitted at the time of the interactive session.

  • Receipt-cum-Admit Card
  • Photocopy of the Birth Certificate from the Municipal Corporation (Original certificate to be brought for verification)
  • Registration Form duly filled and signed
Successful candidates are informed through post. No queries are entertained regarding this.


CLASS XI

Admission to classes XI in Science, Humanities, Commerce Streams starts in March, but it is provisional till the submission of class X Pass Certificate and Mark Sheet. Admission continues up to the end of August.

Parents should come along with the candidate concerned for the interactive session as per the date and time mentioned on the Receipt-cum-Admit Card.

Parents must rank their preference of Stream in the Registration Form.

The following documents are to be submitted at the time of registration:

  • Receipt-cum-Admit Card.
  • Registration Form duly filled and signed.
  • Attested photocopy of the Progress Report Card of the School last attended or attested Marksheet of the Class X Board Examination.
Only selected candidates will be intimated by post.

UPPER INFANT TO CLASS IX

Admission to classes Upper Infant to IX is generally in March/April and continues up to July. The numbers depend on the vacancies that occur in a particular class.

Parents should come along with the child concerned for the interactive session / test as per the date and time mentioned on the Receipt-cum-Admit Card.

Parents must rank their preference of school in the Registration Form.

The following documents are to be submitted at the time of registration:


  • Receipt-cum-Admit Card.
  • Photocopy of the Birth Certificate from the Municipal Corporation (Original certificate to be brought for verification)
  • Registration Form duly filled and signed.
  • Attested photocopy of the Progress Report Card of the School, last attended.
Only selected candidates will be intimated by post. Students must submit the original Transfer Certificate during admission. For student from outside West Bengal, original Transfer Certificates must be countersigned by the Education Officer / designated personnel of the Board / State concerned.
